• Historic cross-country fences designed by Ian Stark
    In the 1960s, Tom Stewart, an active owner of top Arabian show horses, purchased the raw land comprising the original parcel of Lavenham Farm. He developed the property specifically as a horse farm around 1970.
  • In 1981 Lavenham Farm and its subsequent owner, Ian Smith, began hosting the first Shaggy Pony Show, which continued at Lavenham for many years. The Shaggy Pony Show is Vashon Island’s biggest annual horse show, now held nearby at Paradise Ridge Park.
  • Ian Smith, founder of Lavenham Farm, sponsored over 250 pony club members from Lavenham Farm. Ian is a member of the Pony Club Hall of Fame.
  • Lavenham Farm has hosted many clinics over the years with internationally famous clinicians, such as:
    • Ian Stark—Badminton Three-Day Event Winner 1999; Individual Olympic Silver Medalist for Great Britain in 1988 at Seoul, Korea; multiple team gold and silver medals at Olympic and World Championship competitions
    • Christine Stückelberger—Six-time Olympian for Switzerland in Dressage; Individual Olympic gold medalist in dressage in 1976
    • Kevin Freeman—Double Olympic silver medalist in three-day event; Grand Prix show jumper; Competitor in the FEI divisions at Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
  • It took Linda Sferra nearly ten years and multiple real estate purchases to expand Lavenham Farm to its current 33 acres.
